The return of the Bed Bug!

Bed bugs

Bed bugs it seems are rearing their ugly little heads again and are making an unwelcome return to our homes and also hotels. We are not even talking only really rough hotels and poorer homes, they have also made a claim on the more upmarket accommodation.

These small insects are oval shaped and a reddish brown colour. They have no wings and survive from feeding off the blood of humans and also animals.

They get the name of “bed bugs” from the fact that they are most commonly found in mattresses, carpets and even crevices in wooden furniture. They are nocturnal and it is at this time they tend to come out to bite!

Huge tick

I was horrified the other day to hear that a friend of mine had actually been poorly for months and what was the cause of this illness ……… a tick!

It seems that way back in the summer she had been out for a country walk and unbeknown to her she must have been bitten by a tick. I am told they are often found close to where deers graze and these were prevalent in this area.

Some weeks later she started to feel really ill with unexplained weakness in her limbs and terrible fatigue. Eventually she was taken to hospital and was finally diagnosed after many tests with Lyme disease.
